Coyote Hills Bayview Trail - Aug. 3, '11

Walking Distance: 2.3 miles (estimate)
Walking Time: 1 hr., 30 min. (5:35 - 7:05 p.m.)
Start and End Point: Public parking lot, near rock outcropping, Coyote Hills Regional Park, Fremont, CA

The Bayview Trail is one of several trails in the Coyote Hills Regional Park. There is an admission charge for cars (and an additional $1 dog charge), but the park offers several nice trails for hikers, bikers, and others.

Thank you to Margaret and Albert for joining me this evening to finish the Bayview Trail loop -- that I hadn't quite finished previously. It was also a good excuse to go back to this trail cut into the Coyote Hills with scenic views of the Bay and the Dumbarton Bridge in the distance.

This is an especially nice walk before sunset. And, this evening, it was a good spot for seeing birds, ground squirrels, and dragonflies. There was a large hawk hovering nearby, intent on some possible prey in the dry grasses below. On the backside of the hill (non-Bay facing side), there was a large flock of white pelicans in the marsh/water in the distance.

Wildlife Sightings:
2 blue jays; 10 ducks; 3 little brown jobs (LBJs); 7 unidentified brownish shorebirds (UBBs); 1 great egret, 7 snowy egrets; 1 black beetle; 11 dragonflies; 2 lizards; 8 ground squirrels; 2 finches; 9 sea gulls; 2 cormorants; 6 pelicans (5 white, 1 brown); 1 hawk
